Did you know there are more microbes in/on your body than stars in the Milky Way? Microbes are microscopic organisms viewable only by a microscope, such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses. From the skin to the gut, our bodies are home to over 100 trillion microbes which make up our ‘microbiomes.’ Microbiomes are essential for helping maintain our immune system, digestive system, and brain functions. 

As you can imagine, maintaining a healthy microbiome is especially important for those living with severe diseases. For this reason, UCB is the science education sponsor for the new special exhibit, "The Secret World Inside You", at Atlanta’s Fernbank Museum of Natural History. The exhibit features models, interactive experiences, games, and immersive displays to teach viewers how our microbiomes help us, how they can be disrupted, and how we can care for them. "The Secret World Inside You" is a family-friendly and fascinating learning experience for both children and adults alike. For an adult only viewing experience, check out the exhibit during Fernbank’s upcoming “Fernbank After Dark: Microbes & Microbrews” event on March 9.
